Hair-raising moment deadly eastern brown snake slithers past an unfazed tradie taking a smoker’s break

  • Frightening photo shows deadly snake under worker’s legs
  • Ayla Manson saw the venemous serpent but stayed still

A tradeswoman taking a break has had a close call with one of the world’s deadliest snakes after it slithered under her legs.

Ayla Manson was taking a cigarette break from her job with Harrison’s Gold Coast and Brisbane Snake Catcher when an Eastern Brown Snake crawled past.

A colleague filmed the terrifying moment the snake moved right under her legs.

The stigma around snakes being aggressive or violent has sadly taken over most peoples perception. This is a fantastic example that they don’t want to hurt us and the only reason they do attack is they’re scared of something significantly larger than them the bite is only to say back off! they are an innocent animal which just wants to go along its day without interference

Ms Manson is seen puffing on her cigarette and maintaining her composure as the extremely venomous snake moves past her.

The snake had earlier been caught under a fridge at a Tamborine home and released into the bush.

The reptile then decided it wanted to explore and slithered back to the yard, where Manson, 24, was sitting on the ground.

By the time she saw it, it was too late to jump away.

‘We already knew the personality of the snake was chill that day,’ she told Brisbane Times. ‘I knew in that moment, the safest thing was to stay still.’

‘Had I panicked and gotten up, it would have tried to defend itself and I would have been at risk of a bite.’

Ms Manson said she believes snakes – even deadly brown snakes – are not naturally aggressive and only react if humans scare them.

The company’s co-owner said they shared the footage to help raise awareness about how to handle the situation if they find themselves in a similar one.

She said it was safer to stay still than make any sudden movements to spook the reptile
