Body expert reveals Kate Moss ‘lit up with warmth’ while testifying on behalf of Johnny Depp

[ad_1]

A body language expert has revealed how Kate Moss lit up with ‘warmth’ as she recalled the ‘memory’ of her romance with Johnny Depp while giving testimony for her ex in his $100 million defamation trial against Amber Heard.

Notoriously-private Moss, 48, put aside her infamous hatred of interviews in order to rush to Depp’s aid in court today, taking to the stand on his behalf and delivering a sensational blow to his ex-wife Heard’s case by squashing the actress’ claim that Depp once pushed his supermodel ex down a flight of stairs.

Now, body language expert Judi James has analyzed the subtle movements in Moss’ face and expression, which she said implied that the star has nothing but warm feelings towards her former beau, despite her previously claiming that their breakup left her heartbroken for ‘years.’

On the other hand, James claimed that Heard’s uncomfortable look throughout the testimony suggested that she felt ‘denial or irrelevance.’

‘Asked, “Do you know Jonny Depp?” Kate’s very subtle facial movements suggest residual warmth at the memory. The right side of her mouth curls up in a subtle smile as she says, “Yes I do,”‘ James told DailyMail.com, while discussing Moss’ testimony.

Kate Moss

Kate’s very subtle facial movements suggest residual warmth at the memory of her relationship with Depp. The right side of her mouth curled up in a subtle smile as she discussed it in court.

She gave the impression of being polite, smiling sweetly and apologetically when accidentally speaking over the lawyer.

Moss also appeared calm and impassive, devoid of any signs of stress or anxiety – despite her previously stating that she would get ‘ill’ before having to speak to the media.

Amber Heard

As for Heard, she could be seen watching with her chin raised and eyebrows arched, as Moss delivered a sensational blow to her case – suggesting that she felt denial or irrelevance.

Johnny Depp

Depp attempted to hide his joy by keeping his fingers over his mouth, but as the testimony concluded, he couldn’t contain his delight any longer and let out a small smile.

‘Kate gives the impression of being polite, smiling sweetly and apologetically when speaking over the lawyer and being interrupted by him.’

Depp, 58, and Heard, 35 – who tied the knot in 2015, and were married for one year before Heard filed for divorce in 2016 – have been battling it out in court in recent weeks.

The trial, which is still underway in Virginia, is attempting to determine if a 2018 Washington Post essay written by Heard, in which she accused the actor of domestic abuse, defamed Depp.

Depp and Moss, on the other hand, were Hollywood’s ‘it’ couple when they dated from 1994 to 1998.

When Depp dumped Moss so he could focus his full attention on his acting career, she admitted that she was devastated for a long time over the breakup.

However, it looks like there are no hard feelings between them now, since she appeared to smile at the mere thought of her past love with the movie star.

During Heard’s testimony earlier this month, the actress alleged that Depp once shoved Moss down a flight of stairs – but according to the British entrepreneur, the Hollywood heartthrob actually helped her after she accidentally slipped.

Heard made the claim while discussing an argument that she allegedly had with Depp at the top of a staircase, when she said her sister, Whitney Heard, stepped in between them.

‘She threw herself in the line of fire. She was trying to get Johnny to stop. Her back was to the staircase, and Johnny swings at her. I don’t hesitate and wait – I instantly think of Kate Moss and stairs,’ she said. ‘And I swung at him.’

Moss said during her testimony that Depp never ‘pushed her or threw her down any stairs,’ in fact, she said that he tended to her after she tripped during a trip they took to Jamaica together.

'Kate's facial movements suggest residual warmth at the memory,' James said, pointing out that 'the right side of her mouth curls up in a subtle smile' while discussing their relationship

‘We were leaving the room and Johnny left the room before I did. There had been a rainstorm and as I left the room I slid down the stairs,’ she recalled, while testifying via video link.

‘I hurt my back, and I screamed because I didn’t know what had happened.’

She said Depp came running back to help her, adding that he ‘carried her to her room and got her medical attention.’

Throughout the testimony, James pointed out that Moss appeared calm and ‘impassive, devoid of any signs of stress or anxiety’ – despite her previously stating that she would get ‘ill’ before having to speak to the media.

James continued, ‘Her testimony is brief and simple, as is her body language. For much of it her face is impassive, her lips pulling together slightly after most of her answers.

‘Despite the fact that she is famously private, her blink rate and her shoulder angle look devoid of any signs of stress or anxiety.’

According to James, the supermodel didn’t give much away with her eye movements, which is most likely due to the fact that she was talking to a computer screen and not an actual person.

‘Her eyes tend to go upward as she describes the scene with the stairs,’ she noted.

‘Eye-direction is often sited as being indicative of accessing different parts of the brain, from recalled memory to creative, but the evidence for that is inconclusive and Kate is speaking to a screen, not a human being.’

When asked directly by Depp’s team if the Pirates of the Caribbean star ever pushed her down the stairs, Moss replied, ‘No.’

‘No, he never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any stairs,’ she told the court.

The body language expert added, ‘She becomes more animated at this point, seeming to be close to laughter as she says, “He never pushed me or kicked me.”‘

Moss dressed casually for the appearance, wearing a white blouse and black jacket, while her blonde hair sat loosely around her face.

‘Giving no hint of her role as a fashion guru and supermodel, Kate sits primly upright on screen, dressed uncharacteristically dourly in a dark jacket and tie-neck blouse,’ James described.

As for Heard, she could be seen watching with her chin raised and eyebrows arched, as Moss negatively impacted her case with her testimony.

‘Amber is seen at times during this testimony, sitting mainly with her chin raised and her eyebrows arched,’ James told DailyMail.com.

‘When Kate is asked how long she and Johnny were a couple [Heard’s] head seems to turn from side to side in a gesture that could suggest denial or irrelevance.’

Depp attempted to hide his joy by keeping his fingers over his mouth, but as the testimony concluded, he couldn’t contain his happiness any longer and let out a small smile.

‘When the camera scans to him, Johnny pretty much retains his signature pose, sitting immobile with his index finger over his lips, masking or controlling his mouth expression,’ said James.

‘Although [his lawyer Camille] Vasquez sits smiling at the screen in what looks like an expression of warm delight.’

Moss and Depp dated for more than three years in the ’90s, after they met at a New York City café. And as two of the biggest names in Hollywood, the stars’ high-profile romance quickly became one of the most talked about pairings of the time.

After they split, Moss had nothing but nice things to say about her ex, telling Vanity Fair that there was no one who took care of her like Depp did. However, she admitted that losing him was hard.

‘There’s nobody that’s ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a bit,’ she said in the interview, which came out in 2012.

‘I believed what he said. Like if I said, “What do I do?” he’d tell me. And that’s what I missed when I left.

‘I really lost that gauge of somebody I could trust. Nightmare. Years and years of crying. Oh, the tears!’

As for why they went their separate ways, Depp later told Hello magazine that he struggled to balance his busy work schedule with their relationship.

‘I have never got that emotional over a woman before,’ he said. ‘I have been so stupid because we had so much going for our relationship.

‘I’m the one who has to take responsibility for what happened – I was difficult to get on with, I let my work get in the way and I didn’t give her the attention I should have done.

‘The whole thing was crazy because I should never have got so worked up over what people had to say about my work.

‘Sure I should care about my movies, but when I get home I should try to leave that stuff behind. I couldn’t do that and I was horrific to live with. Trust me, I’m a total moron at times.’

It’s unclear whether or not Moss and Depp are still friends behind closed doors, but they haven’t been seen together publicly since 1998.

However, a source told the New York Post that she has ‘always been supportive of the actor’ in the wake of his trial.

The insider said Heard assumed Moss was on her side when she brought up the alleged stair incident in court earlier this month, but instead, they claimed ‘that couldn’t be further from the truth.’

Dressed to stress the truth: Style expert reveals how Kate Moss created air of ‘authority and authenticity’ with carefully-curated court look of $3,000 Saint Laurent tuxedo jacket, ‘feminine’ blouse, and VERY natural makeup

BY CHARLIE LANKSTON FOR DAILYMAIL.COM

As one of the world’s most famous supermodels, Kate Moss is typically synonymous with glamour and high-fashion.

But when the catwalk star took to the stand to testify on behalf of ex-boyfriend Johnny Depp on Wednesday, she seemingly made it a point to put as much sartorial distance between herself and her designer diva persona in what style experts suggest was a calculated move to bring more ‘authority’ and ‘authenticity’ to her testimony.

Gone were the glamorous dresses, opulent accessories, perfectly-undone locks, and smoky eye makeup.

In their place, the 48-year-old supermodel donned a ‘smart’ $2,990 Saint Laurent tuxedo jacket over a ‘feminine’ undone pussy-bow blouse, an outfit that one fashion expert said helped her to achieve an ‘easy, casual, and authentic’ aesthetic during her brief appearance in Depp’s $100 million defamation case against Amber Heard

According to TV personality Robert Verdi, Moss’s look enabled her to look as though she wasn’t ‘trying too hard’, all the while helping her to focus the attention on her face rather than her fashion.

‘The black and white color combo was smart because when there’s an absence of color it makes you look at the person’s face,’ Verdi told DailyMail.com.

‘The jacket has authority, while the blouse adds a feminine touch,’ he continued, adding that Moss likely opted to leave the bow of her shirt undone in order to ensure she didn’t look as though she had put on some kind of court ‘costume’.

TV personality Robert Verdi said Moss’ look enabled her to look as though she wasn’t ‘trying too hard’, while helping her to focus the attention on her face rather than her fashion

‘Leaving the blouse untied [meant] it [didn’t] feel fussy, [and gave Moss] an “I don’t want to look like I tried too hard” look.

‘If she were to have tied it in a bow, it would have come off looking like a costume. The way she’s wearing it, it looks easy and casual.’

When it came to beauty, Moss further added to the image of herself as someone with authority and authenticity, with Verdi explaining that her ‘very simple’ makeup look was intended to be as natural as possible – although he noted that the supermodel likely worked with a professional makeup artist to achieve the perfect pared-back style.

‘Her beauty is very authentic to her: her makeup is very simple, it looks like she has a blush pink lip, a little bronzer and a little mascara but probably still done by a makeup artist,’ he said.

In stark contrast to Depp’s ex-wife Heard, who has modeled a wide variety of perfectly-done ‘dos throughout the weeks-long trial, Moss made a conscious effort to tame her normally-messy blonde locks – but not to the point where she looked ‘overdone’, Verdi continued.

‘Her hair feels like she’s trying to control how she’s being perceived, it feels like she doesn’t want to overdo it,’ he said.

Still, Moss maintained one small connection to her ‘party girl’ image of old, eschewing a more traditional blazer in favor of a tuxedo-style jacket – a ‘surprising’ style that Verdi noted would be better suited to ‘5pm cocktails than court’.

Overall, her courtroom look was a world away from the overtly-glamorous image that she and Depp were famous for during their four-year relationship in the late nineties – when they were widely viewed as one of the most stylish couplings in the public eye.
