Laura Dern enjoys a family night out as she brings daughter Jaya, 17, to the NYC screening of her movie The Son

Laura Dern was joined by daughter Jaya Harper at a screening of her new movie The Son at the Crosby Street Hotel in New York City on Monday evening.

The actress, 55, looked chic in a figure-hugging black dress which boasted numerous coloured strips that ran down its length. 

The Jurassic Park star, who is also mother to son Ellery, 21, completed the look with a pair of pointed black boots.

Her blonde hair remained free-flowing as she accentuated her age-defying features with a hint of make-up.

Jaya, who Laura shares with ex-husband Ben Harper, opted for a copper plaid skirt which she teamed with a black beaded sweater.

The actress layered the look with a long leather coat and slipped her feet into matching knee-high boots.

The movie stars Hugh Jackman as Peter, a father who attempts to reconcile with his 17-year-old son Nicholas (Zen McGrath) following his divorce from Laura’s character Kate.

Serving as a prequel to 2020’s The Father Florian Zeller once again directs, with Vanessa Kirby in the cast and Anthony Hopkins returning to his Oscar winning role of Anthony Miller. 

It comes after Laura made a surprise appearance in Taylor Swift’s latest music video for her song Bejeweled, from her new album Midnights.

The video was chock-full of celebrity appearances, with the Oscar winner joining the likes of the Haim sisters, make-up artist Pat McGrath, and record producer Jack Antonoff. 

Donned in a lavish period costume Laura takes on the role of the Evil step mother to Taylor’s Cinderella style character.

The glamorous video follows the Getaway Car hitmaker, 32, as she goes from rags to riches and even slips into a sparkling corset for a burlesque routine in a large martini glass with Dita Von Teese.
