Bindi Irwin reveals how she realised her late father Steve’s ‘big dream’ for Australia Zoo: ‘I hope he’d be proud’

Bindi Irwin says she hopes her father Steve would be proud of her after she unveiled the latest development at Australia Zoo: a series of luxury cabins for guests.

TheĀ late conservationist had always dreamt of opening a hotel wing at the Sunshine Coast wildlife park, but died before he could realise this ‘big dream’.

But now The Crocodile Hunter Lounge is open to guests, and Bindi says the suites are everything her dad could have hoped for.

‘I remember being a little girl and sitting at our big meeting table while my mum [Terri] and dad planned for the future with the Australia ZooĀ team,’ Bindi wrote on Instagram on Sunday.

‘Dad’s big dream for the future was to create conservation luxury accommodation like no other for our guests,’ she added.Ā

‘With his dream accomplished and continuing to expand, I hope he’d be proud of the love and passion we’ve all poured into this project.’Ā

Bindi encouraged her followers to book a stay at one of the cabins via the Australia Zoo website.

It comes after the Dancing with the Stars winner announced the death of one of the zoo’s oldest animals:Ā Rhino the rhinoceros iguana, who died at age 42.

Bindi broke down crying as she spoke about losing the reptile she’d grown up with.Ā

Mourning with her brother Robert, mother Terri and husband Chandler Powell, the wildlife warrior spread Rhino’s ashes throughout the zoo.

‘It is with a very heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to Rhino, but we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to be able to share him one last time with you guys,’ Bindi said on Instagram.

Robert, 19, revealed that Rhino, who received a Guinness World Record for being the oldest rhinoceros iguana on record, was always full of energy and ‘sass’.

‘His quality of life was 100 per cent every day. He lived a brilliant life every single day and that’s what you hold onto,’ he added.

Terri, 58, said the iguana first came to Australia Zoo in 1993, the year after she married Steve.
