Nearly a year and a half after the explosive Season 3 finale, Succession finally returns for its fourth and final season.

HBO confirmed earlier this month that the show’s fourth season would be its last, with this season likely revealing the fate of the Waystar Royco conglomerate that Logan Roy (Brian Cox) built with his family.

Logan’s children – Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook), Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Connor (Alan Ruck) all tried to veto the sale of the company to Lukas Mattson (Alexander Skarsgard)… but their plans were foiled at the last minute, when Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) alerted Logan of their plans… essentially throwing his own wife under the bus.

While the children all had the power to veto an impending sale, with the heads up from Tom, Logan was able to take out their veto power with a last-minute deal with his ex Caroline Collingwood (Harriet Walter).

This season will focus on the finalization of the Waystar Royco sale and how it, ‘provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is complete.’

The Season 4 premiere begins with Logan at his birthday party, saying hello to various guests.

Meanwhile, Kendall visits with Roman, who is on a business video call about their new venture, ‘The Hundred,’ which Kendall describes as, ‘ Substack meets Masterclass, meets The Economist, meets The New Yorker.’

Shiv arrives as Roman asks where she’s been, as he adds ‘We hear that you’ve been talking to the Jimenez transition team.’

She confirms, ‘Well, I’ve talked to them, but it’s because I’m helping them out, as you already know. Okay, so you– you are talking?’

Shiv adds, ‘No. I returned a call. They wanna, you know, talk about talking. They haven’t won the election, and they might not, and Dad might not sell, and you two might bail.’

Kendall adds that Logan is ‘two days away from selling’ but Shiv isn’t sure that Logan will sell.

They all revealed they have already drafted their letters of resignation from Waystar though Shiv wants to keep some options.

Back at the birthday party, Greg (Nicholas Braun) arrives with a date, Bridget, though he gets a hard time from Kerry (Zoe Winters).

‘You know, I’m not– I’m not sure this is appropriate,’ Greg says though Kerry says, ‘We’re not a f***ing Shake shack, Greg. This isn’t a pre-f**k party. It’s a birthday party.

Greg insists, ‘And… I am a cousin. I get a plus one. I’m like an honorary kid,’ though Kerry adds, ‘You do know that– that we’re in the middle of a very hotly contested election, your uncle’s on the break of a very large sale, and scoping out a very sensitive acquisition?’

‘So, are you certain that she’s not gonna leak details right before the board meeting? Do you know she’s not a hostile corporate asset?’ Kerry asks.

Meanwhile, Tom calls Shiv and tells her that he just had drinks with Naomi Pierce (Annabelle Dexter-Jones).

‘Yeah, I was just calling, just to give you a heads-up and just to say hi, and, um, just to say, just to let you know that I just had a little drink with Naomi Pierce last night,’ he says, though Shiv is confused.

Shiv asks, ‘You’re asking me, or you’re informing me?’ And Tom says, ‘Shiv, it’s not a thing. It’s not a thing.’

Shiv adds, ‘You know what? It’s fine. It’s fine. You’re dating my brother’s ex. It’s fine.’

Tom insists, ‘It’s social. It’s not a sexual thing. You know? So, there’s nothing I need to tell you about.’

Shiv goes off and says, ‘You know what? It’s fine. Go f***ing nail her in the coat check. I don’t care. The kid from St. Paul has really made it.’

Tom adds, ‘I just thought, under the terms of what we agreed, this was something worth discussing.

Shiv asks where he was at with her and he hangs up the phone and goes tells her siblings that Tom is with Naomi, which confuses Kendall.

Roman wonders if it could be, ‘a brain f**k. Dad twisting our turnips, playing the old f**k trombone.’

Connor and Willa (Justine Lupe) are talking with Greg at Logan’s party, as the couple are concerned their one percent could get ‘squeezed down.’

‘From one? ‘Cause that’s the lowest number possible. Uh, no. There’s, you know, decimals,’ Greg says.

‘You know, they’re saying that I could need to get aggressive in certain media markets because both sides are trying to squeeze my percent,’ he said.

Connor adds that he would get $100 million but that wouldn’t be enough to win the election.

‘The hope is that would maintain– maintain my percent,’ Connor says.

Tom goes to talk to Logan and ask if they would still be ‘good’ if he and Shiv were to get a divorce amid this ‘trial separation.’

‘We’ll always be good, right?’ Tom asks, and Logan replies, ‘If we’re good, we’re good.’

‘Okay. Well, that’s heartening. That’s– that’s heartening. I’m heartened by that. That’s great,’ Tom says, as Logan asks Kerry, ‘where’s the grub, huh? Tom’s going off his nut here.

The kids are talking about The Hundred and if they can launch another venture as well.

‘Yeah. Let’s launch a high-visibility, execution-dependent, disruptor news brand while simultaneously performing cpr on a fucking corpse of a legacy media conglomerate,’ she says.

Tom goes to Greg and says, ‘So, I hear you’ve made an enormous faux pas and everyone’s laughing up their sleeves -about your date.’

When Greg asks why, Tom says, ‘Because she’s brought a ludicrously capacious bag. What’s even in there? Huh? Flat shoes for the subway? Her lunch pail? I mean, Greg, it’s monstrous. It’s gargantuan. You could take it camping. You could slide it across the floor -after a bank job.’

Greg adds, ‘Well, whatever. She’s another tick on the chart. The Disgusting Brothers!’ though Tom says, ‘Don’t call us that.

Greg’s date arrives and says she thinks they should leave, adding, ‘Nothing. I just asked Logan for a selfie.’

‘ Yeah, I said, “Congrats on the big deal.” And I was, like, “Ka-ching. Am I right?” I was being– I was being funny.’

The kids say Nan thinks she’s ‘honor bound to another buyer’ and they’re close to agreeing to the outlines of a deal.

Kerry calls Roman and asks if they would consider giving dad a call, as they asked if dad actually asked.

Kerry says she can request a text for a call, but Roman says, ‘I’m afraid we’re gonna need to hear that voice, Kerry, okay?’

Connor goes to Willa and asks if she thinks their impending wedding is ‘special’ enough but she thinks he sounds ‘unhinged.’

Connor tells Willa that he’s scared and if he goes under 1% that he’d become a ‘laughingstock.’

Greg goes back to Tom telling him he had sex with his date in the guest bedroom.

‘You actually did it? Oh Greg, you are f***ed. You are f***ed. Logan is camera’d up the wazoo, CCTV,’ Tom says, but Greg says he didn’t know that.

Logan returns as Tom tells him that he watches the footage every night to see if anyone stole a butter knife.

Tom asks what happened and says he accidentally made Logan a sex tape, as Logan tells everyone the party is over and gathers his team upstairs.

Deal: This season will focus on the finalization of the Waystar Royco sale and how it, ‘provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is complete’

While, for a majority of the series, the Roy children have been at odds with each other, the last few episodes of Season 3 found them finally joining forces to stop their father Logan from selling off the family’s media conglomerate.

Little did they know that family black sheep Tom Wambsgans (Matthew McFadyen) betrayed his own wife Shiv and gave Logan a heads up on what they were doing, giving him enough to remove their power to block the impending sale.

The final shots of Season 3 seemed to indicate that Shiv realized her husband betrayed her, though it’s unclear how that will play out in Season 4.

Succession creator Jesse Armstrong first confirmed that Season 4 will be the end of the show in a wide-ranging interview with The New Yorker, where he was asked why he decided to confirm the final season before it debuted.

‘One, we could have said it as soon as I sort of decided, almost when we were writing it, which I think would be weird and perverse,’ Armstrong began.

‘We could have said it at the end of the season. I quite like that idea, creatively, because then the audience is just able to enjoy everything as it comes, without trying to figure things out, or perceiving things in a certain way once they know it’s the final season,’ he added.

‘But, also, the countervailing thought is that we don’t hide the ball very much on the show. I feel a responsibility to the viewership, and I personally wouldn’t like the feeling of, “Oh, that’s it, guys. That was the end.” I wouldn’t like that in a show. I think I would like to know it is coming to an end,’ he clarified.

He added, ‘And, also, there’s a bunch of prosaic things, like it might be weird for me and the cast as we do interviews. It’s pretty definitively the end, so then it just might be uncomfortable having to sort of dissemble like a politician for ages about it. Hopefully, the show is against bullshit, and I wouldn’t like to be bulls****ing anyone when I was talking about it.’
