‘The renaissance begins’: Absent Beyonce wins two awards at the BRITS despite missing the ceremony – after bosses refused to fork out £500,000 for the megastar to perform
Beyonce took home two gongs at the BRIT Awards in London on Saturday, despite not being at the star-studded ceremony itself.
The singer, 41, won International Artist of the Year and International Song of the Year for Break My Soul.
Beyonce, who recently announced her Renaissance World Tour, thanked fans for the accolades in pre-recorded video messages.
‘Thank you so much for this incredible recognition. I’d like to say thank you to all of my friends out there in Britain for your continuous support over the years,’ she told fans in her Artist of the Year speech.
She added: ‘The Renaissance begins. I’ll see y’all on tour. Thank you so much for this honour!’

It comes amid claims that Beyonce was a no-show at the event because bosses couldn’t justify a £500,000 bill for a performance and to host her and her entourage in London.
According to The Daily Mail’s Katie Hind, ‘Beyonce and her team wanted several suites at central London hotel the Corinthia, and supplies for an entourage of around 40 to set up her part of the show’.
A source said: ‘The whole production would have cost a fortune. Beyonce and her crew needed a huge team which would have meant flights, hotels and other costs. It was just not justifiable – the bosses thought that the line up was already brilliant.’
Performers at the event included Harry Styles, Stormzy and Lewis Capaldi.
Last month, Beyonce reportedly accepted a $24 million payday for her performance at the new Dubai hotel Atlantis the Royal.
Earlier this month, Beyonce fans were left scrambling to get general release tickets to the Renaissance 2023 world tour as they went on sale.
Beyoncé’s Renaissance 2023 world tour comes six years after her last – the Formation World tour – and will feature songs from her seventh studio album, which contains the hit track Break My Soul.
Hundreds of thousands of her fans entered virtual queues for pre-sale tickets last week, with a staggering 400,000 waiting in line for tickets to one of her two London performances.

The songstress became the most awarded artist in Grammys history.
Beyonce won best R&B song, best dance/electronic recording, best dance/electronic album and best traditional R&B performance for Renaissance.
The tour will begin in Europe this May before concluding in North America in September.
As with previous tours, Beyoncé will make her mark offstage, too, with BeyGOOD, the initiative she founded in 2013 to support people and programs around the world.
