The death of the mother, who owned the Oliver’s beauty salon in the North Lincolnshire village, has devastated her family and rocked the local community.

One family member wrote online: ‘Rest in peace beautiful my heart is broken, can’t believe my beautiful cousin has gone, what a cruel world.’

Neighbours were also horrified to hear of Clair’s death, with one telling Grimsby Live: ‘Clair was friendly and always spoke to me when we were out walking the dogs.

‘I just can’t believe this has happened right on our doorstep. You see it on the television, but I’m very surprised to see it outside my house.’

Taking to Facebook, one friend wrote: ‘Absolutely heartbroken a lovely friend I can’t actually believe it.’

And another added: ‘RIP Clair… your salon was amazing and you worked so hard. Condolences to your family.’

Other Messingham business owners also reacted to the news of Clair’s death, with one saying: ‘I just can’t believe it, I’ve only ever seen this sort of thing on the news. The whole thing is just such a shock.’

Clair was a talented skydiver and regularly took part in jumps at the local centre at Hibaldstow.

In a statement on its Facebook page, Olivers said: ‘Due to unfortunate circumstances the family have decided Oliver’s will be closed until further notice. We will update you when we can. Thank you.’
