Awkward Australian Idol audition goes viral after contestant sings and dances to a K-pop song – as viewers say she looked like she was performing on a South Korean talent show

An Australian Idol contestant has gone viral online after performing an awkward cover of K-pop boy band BTS’ hit Dynamite.

The young woman left judges Kyle Sandilands and Meghan Trainor speechless as she sang the K-pop hit acapella while performing choreography.

The clip, which was shared on the Australian Idol TikTok account and then reposted on Twitter, has so far racked up around 10million views.

‘My second hand embarrassment is escalating the more and more I watch,’ one user commented.

‘It makes me sad to see all the negative comments towards this,’ wrote one. ‘She’s really sweet in real life and an incredible dancer!’

Another person commented: ‘Not sure why the judges were making those exaggerated faces but I am proud of her.’

Countless people online pointed out that the woman looked like she was auditioning for a K-pop show instead of Australian Idol.

‘Girl thought she’s on Girls Planet 999!’ one commented, referring to the South Korean talent competition.

‘Funny cause this would be enough to make tweets about “stable vocals” and “queen of stage presence” for K-pop stans,’ added another.

Australian Idol recently returned to TV after almost fifteen years off the air.

The ratings have been lacklustre so far, lagging behind Channel 10’s Australian Survivor and Nine’s blockbuster Married At First Sight.
