A 48-year-old man has been shot by police after he pointed a gun at officers at a rural police station.Â
The armed man approached officers at Tenterfield police station in northern NSW on Thursday at 545pm.
Officers from the New England Police District shot the man, before disarming him.

Despite the efforts of responding police and paramedics, the man died at the scene (pictured, a map showing the northern NSW town near the Queensland border)

‘A critical incident team of officers from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident,’ NSW police said in a statement.
It will also look into the discharge of the police firearm.
The investigation will be subject to independent review.Â
