The upcoming prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes was well underway on Sunday when scenes for the film were shot in Berlin.
The film, which stars West Side Story‘s Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth, has currently turned the German metropolis into a body-strewn battleground.
During Sunday’s shoot, a pair of child actors were seen running down the snowy street of the iconic Karl-Marx-Allee as they passed a fake frozen corpse.

It appeared to be a young girl and boy, with the actress wearing a pink outfit with a long pale pink coat and white boots.
The boy’s costume included a regal purple outfit with a gray coat and black boots.
The actors were filmed from several different angles, with the camera operator being pulled on a wheeled seat for one take, while he held the camera with a Steadicam-like stabilizer device to keep the film smooth even as he ran on the rough surface.
The crew members were all dressed casually in hoodies and long-sleeve shirts to stay warm on the chilly day, though the snow appeared to have been shipped in as temperatures were well above freezing.

The film’s director, Francis Lawrence, was spotted on set as he coached the young actors and walked them through the scene.
They appeared to be smiling as they stood next to the fake snow-covered dead body to get used to the disturbing sight.
Lawrence was seen nearby as he talked an adult actor through another scene filmed on the steps of a Stalinist-era building with large stone columns dotting the steps leading up to it.
The actor sported a shaggy beard with a pinstriped vest and trousers.
The production appeared to be shooting away from the building, as it still had the light-up signs of contemporary business decorating its exterior.

His return to the Hunger Games series takes places 64 years prior to the events of the first film. Tom Blyth stars as Coriolanus Snow (later to be played by Donald Sutherland), who serves as a mentor to the 10th Hunger Games, before later becoming the president of Panem.
Rachel Zegler costars as Lucy Gray Baird, a District 12 tribute who joins forces with Coriolanus after he is assigned to mentor her. When she draws attention to herself by singing during the reaping ceremony, Coriolanus concludes that she might be his best hope of advancing.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes is set to be released in theaters on November 17, 2023.
