AFL legend Peter Matera rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack: West Coast Eagles

AFL legend Peter Matera was is lucky to be alive after sufferings a ‘severe heart attack.

The West Coast Eagles great, 53, was rushed to Bendigo hospital in Victoria on Sunday, where doctors placed two stents placed in his heart. 

Teammate of the two-time premiership player, Brad Hardie, broke the news but said he’s not fully aware of his condition. 

‘We’re not sure exactly the extent of it at this stage,’ Hardie said.

‘He’s Rehabilitating as we speak in a hospital in Bendigo, so get well Roo. He’s a star.’

Matera played 253 games for the Eagles between 1990 and 2002 and in 2005 was named in the AFL’s Indigenous team of the century.

The winger also had the honor being awarded the Norm Smith Medal in 1992 for being best on ground in the Grand Final and is a five-time All Australian.
