Abbie Quinnen detailed the consequences of her 2021 horrific burn injury while on Lorraine on Wednesday.

The dancer, 24, was involved in a freak fire accident which took place when she was filming a YouTube video with her boyfriend, former Strictly dancer AJ Pritchard, 27, in which they attempted to turn a wine bottle into a vase. 

Abbie said the injuries meant that she and AJ had to have therapy sessions and she once found him ‘crying hysterically’ as he struggled to cope with the aftermath.

The professional dancer needed three skin grafts after her YouTube skit went wrong and her hair, skin and face were engulfed in flames. 

Talking to Christine Lampard, Abbie explained: ‘It completely blew up and I was engulfed in flames. I didn’t know if I would ever look the same again if I would get my movement back

‘The burns unit looked after me so well. I felt like I looked horrific and if AJ or my family saw me it would break their hearts. I was embarrassed of how I looked. It was a lot of trauma,’ she continued.

She told Christine that she and her boyfriend both attended therapy following the incident, as AJ tried to be strong but struggled to cope.

‘I eventually took up the offer of therapy. AJ got some too. He was trying to be strong but he would leave the room and cry and one time I found him crying hysterically on the sofa. I didn’t know what to do,’ she told Christine.

Despite the traumatic experience, Abbie explained that she did not need further surgery and is ‘feeling so much better’ now as she gets her confidence back.

Abbie said: ‘I don’t need anymore surgery now which is great. I am feeling so much better, I have done half marathons and I am back to normal. I feel more confident now I am over the worst and out the other side’

Alongside support from AJ, Abbie also spoke to Katie Piper, who previously suffered burns following an acid attack, and Claudia Winkleman, who’s daughter was burnt after a candle set the synthetic material of her Halloween costume on fire.

Abbie said: ‘AJ was the best and I am so grateful. Speaking to Katie Piper and Claudia Winkelman also really helped me.’

Speaking of the future, Abbie would love to follow in AJ’s footsteps as a Strictly Come Dancing professional.

Her beau left the show in 2020, but Abbie told Christine she would ‘I would love to be a pro dancer on Strictly’. 

The professional dancer trained at The Urdang Academy in Islington, meeting AJ when she performed as a dancer on his Get On The Floor Live tour.

Abbie took to Instagram to share some behind the scenes snaps from the daytime TV show, as AJ joined her backstage to show his support. 

In the post, she thanked Christine and AJ, dubbing him her ‘number one fan’ in the caption.

She wrote: ‘Thank you so much for having me! was absolutely gorgeous to see @christinelampard what a beautiful human /  and of course had my number one fan with me @j11ace’
