Police in New York City are searching for a gunman after a 48-year-old man was shot to death on the subway in Manhattan Sunday morning. 

The man was on a northbound Q train that was just pulling into the Canal street station around 11:42 a.m. when the gunman began firing, striking the victim in the chest, NYPD said. 

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not released.  

The suspect fled the area and no arrests have been made, NYPD said. No one else was injured in the shooting. 

Northbound Q and N trains are running with delays due to the NYPD investigation at Canal Street.
