‘WTF? How pathetically spineless’: Piers Morgan fumes at Gary Lineker’s removal from Match of the Day and mockingly DEMANDS the BBC ‘suspend every presenter who has made public comment’
‘How pathetically spineless’ was Piers Morgan‘s description of the BBC after they made the decision on Friday to temporarily remove Gary Lineker from his presenting duties on Match of the Day.
Lineker has been the show’s iconic star figurehead since first appearing as a guest on the first MOTD episode of the Premier League era in 1992 and has been the recognisable face of the production ever since.
However, his position is now in serious doubt after the BBC made the decision on Friday for Lineker to ‘step back’ from the show due to his recent tweet that saw him compare the UK Government’s policy over asylum seekers to Nazi Germany.
The BBC later announced that nobody would present Saturday’s show and instead the production would just focus on match action.
Many were waiting to see how the controversial Morgan would react to the news and it appears he is in full support of Lineker’s actions, posting a damning statement against the BBC on his Twitter.
Piers Morgan has slammed the BBC for removing Gary Neville from hosting Match of the Day on Saturday
Lineker has temporarily been taken off-air by the BBC after a recent controversial tweet
Morgan tweeted: ‘WTF? How pathetically spineless.. I now demand the BBC suspend every presenter who has made public comment about news or current affairs – starting with Sir David Attenborough and Lord Sugar.
MailOnline have also analysed Lineker’s actions that led up to his recent axing and have explained the ongoing situation.
His comments come after Lineker’s co-hosts Ian Wright and Alan Shearer ruled themselves out of Saturday’s episode in a show of solidarity with their suspended colleague.
Morgan’s reference to Lord Alan Sugar comes after the self-made millionaire and host of BBC show The Apprentice past social media activity that has seen him slam both RMT Union leader Mick Lynch and also the Labour party.
The controversial journalist and broadcaster then decided to double-down in his support of Lineker and issued a warning to the presenter who decides to take the vacant hotseat on Saturday night.
He added: ‘Memo to anyone who now agrees to present MOTD tomorrow: we’ll see you, and we’ll judge you accordingly.
Morgan also offered Lineker advice on his position with the BBC and suggested he tells the organisation to ‘go f*** themselves’
He then moved to offer 62-year-old Lineker advice on what to do next, suggesting the former England international should tell the BBC to ‘go f*** themselves’.
‘Gary Lineker should tell the BBC to go f*** themselves, as I told ITV to over the Markle debacle. Free speech is the cornerstone of democracy – the moment Britons agree to be told what we’re allowed to say or think, democracy dies.
Lineker’s fellow BBC colleagues Jermaine Jenas, Alex Scott, and Micah Richards have additionally ruled themselves out of the running to replace the temporarily ousted presenter.
Rival station pundit Gary Neville has echoed similar sentiments of support for Lineker and blamed the ‘Tories and the system’ for the decision to take the host off-air.
