Professional live-in nanny, 21, shares the six things she will NEVER do as part of her job – so do you agree with her list?

  • The 21-year-old has very strict boundaries to avoid being mistreated
  • She refuses to do extra housework and mind extra children

A professional live-in nanny has shared the six things she refuses to do as part of the job – and hundreds of other nannies agree with her list.

Braonain, 21, said that many employers can mistreat or ask too much of nannies so she has strict boundaries for the job.

The Utah nanny says she will never clean anybody’s mess other than the kids she watches, nor will she watch any of the kids’ friends or family members.

‘Don’t be salty I got a lot more on my list of things I won’t do,’ Braonain said when she uploaded the viral TikTok.

The number one thing she refuses to do is clean up the family’s general mess.Ā

‘I am not the housekeeper, I will only clean up after the kids and I, do the dishes, laundry and just pick up after ourselves,’ she explained.

However, she clarified that if she is just watching one baby she offers more as it’s a ‘little bit different’.

A major pet peeve for Braonain is when families do not allow her to take the kids out of the house.

‘I will not work for a family that do not let me take the kids out, I personally do not know how to entertain your kids in the house for 10 hours and the kids and I will lose our sanity,’ she said.

She explained that many families have this rule and she tried it before but ended up quitting the job as it was too difficult.

Another one of her rules is that she refuses to change her rates to accomodate the needs of the family.Ā

‘I will find someone who will pay me what I deserve,’ she said.

She also won’t watch extra people, including friend’s or family’s kids, unless she is paid more.

Another no-no is getting paid late.Ā

‘It’s just disrespectful in all honesty and a lot of nanny families do it and I’ve had it happen so many times before,’ she said.

Her final rule is that she does not work outside of hours.Ā

‘It’s my time off, bye,’ she said.

Hundreds of other nannies agreed with Braonain and explained how difficult it can be to keep strict boundaries on the job.

The six rules a professional nanny swears by:

1. Only clean up mess created by yourself and the children you mind.

2. Do not work for families that don’t allow the kids to leave the house.

3. Do not change your rates to accomodate the needs of the family.Ā

4. Don’t watch extra kids including friend’s or family’s kids unless you are paid more.

5. Do not accept being paid late.Ā

6. DoĀ not work outside of hours.

‘I agree 100 per cent. I had a family with three kids and mum wanted me to have a playdate which means in total I’d be watching seven kids,’ one woman said.

‘Currently a nanny struggling with boundaries and my needs,’ another confessed.

‘I struggle so much sticking up for myself as a nanny. I know I deserve a raise for everything I do around the house but I’m so scared to ask for one,’ another agreed.

Braonain explained that it’s ‘hard’ to learn to set boundaries, but after “years of being treated like sh*t”[she] had enough.

‘Be your own advocate, do not be scared to set boundaries,’ she advised other struggling nannies.

Many applauded her for sticking to her rules.
