Azealia Banks endorses Ron DeSantis: says she feels ‘way safer’ in Miami than Los Angeles

Rapper Azealia Banks is singing the praises of Ron DeSantis, saying the Republican governor of Florida encouraged her to swap Los Angeles for Miami and describing the potential presidential candidate as ‘practical’ and someone who is ‘focused on the basic s***’.

Banks, 31, told The Guardian that she was disappointed by the virtue-signaling which she found rampant in Democratic-controlled California.

‘Every which way I turn [in LA] there’s a Black Lives Matter sign, and then we’re watching swathes of Latino people die every day because they’re considered essential workers,’ she said.

‘There are no Latino Lives Matter signs.

‘That’s not to negate any of the very real issues that black people in America face, but in a rich state like California, in a neighborhood like Silver Lake – here’s Jenny with her f****** like biodynamic wine bar and her vegan cafe.

‘She’s got a Black Lives Matter sign in the window, but sis, did you pay attention to papi who delivered the milk? Did he get a free cup of coffee?’

The New York City-born rapper, famed for her tempestuous relationships with manager, collaborators and record labels, said the pandemic made her reassess her priorities.

Banks sold her Woodland Hills home in November 2020 in a non-judicial foreclosure for $845,000.

She bought the property in March 2016 for $850,000, but listed it one month later and reported repeated run-ins with neighbors.

Banks dug up the corpse of her cat Lucifer, which she had buried three months previously in the garden, and in an Instagram video – now deleted, as with all her social media – said she was taking the cat to Florida.

‘The cat went out with a f****** bang. Taking my b**** to Miami,’ she said, displaying her unearthed cat’s skull, peacock feathers, a bottle of Champagne, a $100 bill and a mostly empty bottle of Chanel No. 5.

Banks said in her video post: ‘We got our ticket out of … California. Through all the … tears and suffering and … wildfires and … gender identity crisis … the girls is making it out.

‘I MADE IT OUT OF HELL.

‘MIAMI, USA. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO,’

Banks told The Guardian, in an interview published last week: ‘I had to go because I can’t do this – either COVID was gonna kill me, or depression. I’m going to f****** Miami.’

Banks said Miami appealed because people ‘mind their f****** business.’

She said she feels ‘way safer’ in Miami than in LA, where she said she needed a gun.

The notoriously outspoken rapper said that Florida’s success was down to its governor.

‘There are elderly people in our country without walkers, who don’t have the money to get a septic tooth pulled. If we’re talking about divvying up healthcare funds, those situations should take precedence to facial feminization surgeries and stuff like that.

‘I mean, I get it – but that’s a cosmetic surgery. Like, does your penis work? Can you pee? You’re not as in trouble as the older woman who can’t afford her dialysis. I think DeSantis is practical about a lot of things.’

Praising DeSantis led her to launch an attack on Kanye West, with whom she collaborated in 2012 on some unreleased songs.

Banks, who has said she came from an abusive home, condemned West for saying he and Kim Kardashian considered aborting their eldest child, and said he was misogynistic.

‘Kanye, you’re an abusive a****** and you’re a p**** for picking on that little-ass girl,’ she said.

‘You are the last person we need to hear from about black fatherhood and the black family unit.’
