Atlassian billionaire Scott Farquhar has snapped up a four bedroom ‘Scottish castle’ for $130million setting a new house price record.

Mr Farquhar and his investment banker wife Kim Jackson snagged the property known as Uig Lodge at Point Piper, in Sydney‘s east.

The sale price has smashed the previous record set by Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes after he bought Fairwater for $100million in 2018.

The house adds to Mr Farquhar’s portfolio that includes one of the country’s most expensive properties, ‘Elaine’, which he purchased in the same suburb for $71million in 2017.

Uig Lodge spans 3,300 squared-metres and sits on a high vantage point that provides some of the best views of Sydney Harbour.

It is one of the most renowned properties in the city and its design was inspired by a Scottish baronial castle.

The property sold for £5,650 to medico Alexander Rutherford and his wife Marcia in 1916 before it was passed onto newspaper magnate Ezra Norton in 1961.

Norton then sold it for $500,000 to Consul-General of Estonia Aldur Kaljo in 1976 and it became notorious for the wild parties that were thrown by him.

The property later fell into the hands of owners Steven and Carol Moss who bought it for $9.2million in 1996.

A spokeswoman for Mr Farquhar and his partner said the couple were ‘excited to have found a family home ready to move into’, Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The couple recently added a five-bedroom North Avoca home, on the NSW Central Coast, to their property portfolio.

Snapped up for $10.85million, the sale was a beachfront record for the region, more than $2million under the property’s original price guide of $13million when it first entered the market in February.

The property last sold for $3m almost six years ago.

Sitting on 556sqm just metres from the beach, the home was created as a contemporary interpretation of the classic Queenslander and captures the very essence of beachfront living, according to the property description.

The manicured lawns, complete with a stone firepit, overlook the ocean and also include a pool and beach shower.
