Dame Kelly Holmes accidentally swore live on Loose Women during a debate about whether ‘Fat Santas’ set a bad example for children.

Speaking on Wednesday’s episode of the ITV daytime show, the Olympian, 52, said she does not care how Father Christmas looks.

The sportswoman said people may be surprised by her views as she has been involved health and fitness all her life.

She added: ‘I literally would not care if Santa was fat, thin, black, white, gay or straight, I just want the b****y presents.’ 

Dame Kelly, who was on a panel with Jane Moore, Katie Piper and Denise Welch, then covered her mouth with her cue card when she realised she had sworn. 

She jumped from her seat while the audience gasped and laughed and then covered her face with her cue card.

Denise then jokingly exclaimed after the blunder: ‘Kelly Holmes! In shock…’

Afterwards, Kelly quipped: ‘Oh that’s going to be all over the papers now that I swore… I just want the presents, give me the presents!’ 

Earlier, both Katie Piper and Denise Welch had said that banning ‘Fat Santas’ was ridiculous as Father Christmas is not a real person and immune from health issues including diabetes. 

Twitter was delighted to see Kelly Holmes on the programme, despite her blunder.

Eileen L Livesey said: ‘Lovely to see Dame Kelly Holmes, I remember when she turned down, live on TV, an invitation from Tom Cruise to attend a premier. She said she had nothing to wear to a premier.’

The ‘Fat Santa’ debate was ignited after an Australian health expert called for all fat Santas to be banned from shopping centres, saying an overweight Father Christmas is sending ‘the wrong message’ and promotes binge eating.

Dr Vincent Candrawinata, a health and wellness expert and researcher at the University of Newcastle, NSW, said a chubby Santa promoted unhealthy eating over Christmas.

He said while he’s yet to see a skinny Santa posing for photos with kids, he’d like a fit Saint Nick to be the new norm. 

‘We shouldn’t expect Santa to be fat because that sends the wrong message,’ he told the Herald Sun.

‘I want to fight the stigma that you need to eat a lot and overindulge to celebrate festivities and be joyful.

Being overweight should not be associated with happiness.’
