A mother who was allegedly murdered by her cryptocurrency dealer son had asked to be buried in her will – with her cremation potentially destroying crucial evidence.

Andre Zachary Rebelo, 26, remains behind bars after being charged in November with the murder of his mother, Colleen Rebelo, 58, at her home in the affluent Perth suburb of Bicton in May 2020.

Ms Rebelo’s death was not deemed suspicious as she had no obvious signs of injury until an investigation was launched into her son’s alleged fraudulent dealings.

By then it was too late, with her cremation potentially wrecking important evidence.

Court documents show Rebelo is accused of forging medical records relating to his mother including information requests, a death certificate and her final will.

It has now been revealed that Ms Rebelo asked in her final will and testament that ‘after my death I wish to be buried’ the West Australian reports.

Details surrounding how the documents were forged as well as the motive for forging the will is unclear. Police have alleged the last will and testament for Ms Rebelo was falsified just days after her death.

Rebelo first fronted Fremantle Magistrates Court five months after his mother’s death on six fraud offences accused of attempting to fraudulently obtain $500,000 between May 1 and August 25 2020, according to court transcripts.

The figure is understood to relate to an alleged life insurance fraud with this charge subsequently discontinued in September.

Rebelo has pleaded not guilty to five counts of forging a document with intent to defraud and is due to stand trial in the WA District Court in December next year.

He is accused of signing documents relating to medical information, and with forging a record ‘namely an automated voice message purporting to be a person named ‘Noreena Sadou’ over three separate days in July.

Police have alleged Rebelo signed a ‘record of investigation into death’, which was dated July 29, 2020, and signed the name of WA Coroner Michael Jenkin.

Rebelo remains in custody for the murder charge and is next scheduled to face Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on December 21.
