Now the 73-year-old pop idol’s son Robert has revealed his father is ‘in good spirits’ and progressing well on his road to recovery.

He told New Idea on Monday the Age of Reason hitmaker would ‘definitely’ be at his and fiancée Mel’s wedding.

‘It’s all good things. It’s a long road ahead for Dad, but he’s in good spirits,’ the 42-year-old singer told the publication.

‘The doctors are really happy with his progress, so there are no dark clouds hanging over us.

‘He just finished radiotherapy and he’s busy cracking jokes, making everybody laugh. He’ll definitely be at our wedding, for sure. He ain’t going nowhere!’

Robert, who is the eldest son of the Australian music legend and his wife Jill, announced his engagement to Mel earlier this month.

Posting a series of romantic pictures to his Facebook, the handsome rocker paid tribute to his fiancée.

‘My best friend and love of my life said yes to marrying me,’ Robert gushed in the caption.

The announcement came after his father John’s recent battle with cancer.

The Your the Voice icon, who is 73, endured 12 hours of life-saving surgery in August and is now on the long road to recovery reports AAP.

John, who has been an Aussie fan favourite since the late 1960s, had a cancerous growth removed from his mouth which has left him ‘unlikely’ to ever perform again.
