A man stabbed his wife, their four-year-old and six-year-old daughters, and a relative before killing himself inside a million dollar home in the Chicago-suburb of Buffalo Grove, law enforcement officials believe according to one report

Officials with the Buffalo Grove Police Department on Thursday announced the names and causes of death for the five individuals found by officers who had been called to the home for a wellness check.

Andrei Kisliak, 39; Vera Kisliak, 36; Vivian Kisliak, 6; Lilia Kisliak, 67; and Amilia Kisliak, 4, all died from ‘sharp force injuries’ police said Thursday during a press conference. Just hours after the names were confirmed, sources told the Lake McHenry Scanner that they believe Andrei stabbed himself after stabbing the four females.

Inside the home, officers also discovered a deceased animal.

The deaths come less than two months after Vera had filed an order of protection against her husband in September, court records show. Less than two weeks after the order was filed, Andrei was arrested for violating the order, but later bailed out.

Police officers were first called to a home in the suburban village, located just about 30 miles north of Chicago, around 11.10am for a welfare check on a woman who had not come to work for a scheduled shift.

Upon arrival, the officers were ‘unable to make contact’ with anyone inside of the home.

‘Forced entry was deemed necessary + a sweep of the home was conducted,’ the village of Buffalo Grove announced on Twitter Wednesday. During the sweep, the five deceased family members were found.

In a press conference Thursday morning, Buffalo Grove Police Department Chief Brian Budds shared the latest details on the case that shocked the upscale village.

‘Today is a very sad day for our community as we continue to process this unthinkable event,’ the chief of police said.

Autopsies conducted on the victims by Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek determined that ‘sharp force injuries’ are the causes of death for all five victims.

‘Sharp force injuries’ are defined as ‘injuries produced by pointed objects or objects with sharp edges,’ traditionally stab wounds or chop wounds, according to Medscape.

Police have still not stated who the attacker was and continue to refer to the incident as ‘domestic-related.’

Neighbors, however, were quick to point out the order of protection Vera had filed months before.

On the same day that the wife had filed the order, Andrei had been charged with contempt of court, according to court records obtained by the Chicago Tribune. He was scheduled to be seen before a judge on December 12.

In addition to the legal protection order filed in September, Andrei and Vera were in the middle of an ongoing divorce, which the couple filed for in July.

The last proceeding for the Kisliak’s divorce was Tuesday, held in Lake County, less than 24 hours before their bodies were discovered.

A representative from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court told the Tribune that some records pertaining to Andrei were currently unavailable and that he had multiple closed cases.

On top of the other legal headaches, on November 9, a mortgage lender linked to the family opened a foreclosure case on the Acacia Terrace home, stating they had not received payments since July 2020.

The Kisliak family’s first record of living in the Buffalo Grove property goes back to 2015, although neighbors said they believed the family moved in about four years ago.

Nearby homes in the suburb range in price from the low 600,000s to upwards of $1.3 million.

One neighbor who was hoping to contribute to the small memorial set up at the end of the driveway spoke to the Chicago Tribune said she had called the police on Andrei in the past.

The woman who asked not to be identified said she called law enforcement after seeing the man yell at his small children after leaving them at a local cafe.

She told the local outlet that he would come and go from the cafe, acting ‘hostile’ toward the young girls.

Officers arrived and talked to the father who then left with his children.

A neighbor who spoke with FOX 32 described the little girls as ‘so sweet’ and ‘so innocent.’

‘The older sister had a big personality. Very loud. The younger sister was very shy but so sweet,’ the neighbor told the FOX affiliate. ‘Babies. Babies. Just babies. How could anyone do this to their family?’

Michelle, a neighbor who spoke with WGN on Wednesday evening after the bodies were found, described the situation as a shock for the small ‘quiet area.’

‘We would see the kids playing about,’ Michelle said. ‘They would have friends and family gatherings. Nothing too out of the ordinary so it’s a big shock to have all this occurring, especially during this time of the year.’

The neighbor also said she had noticed police activity at the house over the past several months: ‘It’s never something you want to delve into, but things like that you notice,’ she said.

Another resident in the area, Falguni Patel, said ahe too is in shock over the news.

‘Eighteen years. My kids grew up here, so it’s… you never see it, never seen anything like this ever,’ said Patel.

A police tent was seen outside the home well into the evening hours as officers kept the street blocked off to pedestrian traffic.

‘Even a USPS mail truck with a post office worker was not allowed to deliver the mail in that area of the block,’ the Arlington Cardinal reported.

The matter remains under investigation by police in the area.

‘I want to thank the responding officers of the Buffalo Grove Police and Fire Departments for their service and dedication in handling this traumatic investigation’ Chief Budds said Thursday.

‘I also would like to thank the Lake County Major Crime Task Force along with the Lake County Coroner’s Office for their invaluable assistance with this investigation which remains active and ongoing,’ Budds continued.
