Devoted fans of The Witcher have gone into overdrive this week, after a recent interview re-surfaced of Henry Cavill just days before he announced he was leaving the hit Netflix show.

In the chat, Henry, 39, seemingly referred to the show when he spoke about ‘doing the right thing’ on acting projects.

Henry was a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and spoke about ‘right and wrong,’ which some fans think has to do with The Witcher.

‘You can almost see tears in his eyes’: Fans have gone into overdrive over Henry Cavill’s latest interview before he announced he was leaving The Witcher where he spoke about ‘doing the right thing’ on acting projects

‘It’s just about belief. If you believe what you’re doing is the right thing then you’ll be able to keep on doing it,’ Henry said just days before the shock announcement was made.

‘It’s also important to know that if you realise you’re doing the wrong thing, that’s when you stop doing the wrong thing.’

He added: ‘You don’t just keep going just because, because that leads down a dark path.’

One fan said they could see ‘tears in his eyes’ when he spoke during the interview, while others said he made the comment in regards to The Witcher, where he played the role of Geralt of Rivia.

‘You can almost see the tears in his eyes. He knows we will know he left The Witcher after three days,’ one fan commented underneath the recorded chat on YouTube.

Another added: ‘I feel that Henry might be having The Witcher in mind. He did the right thing quitting The Witcher. The showrunner turned out to be a very incompetent person, making one mistake after another, pushing her own agenda… And the writers – shame on you. The only good thing is that Henry’s Witcher won hearts of many new fans.’

Another said: ‘He was talking about The Witcher for sure and you can tell how it personally affected him by the tone of his voice and how serious he was saying that. It’s clear that working with The Witcher crew any further went against his values as an actor and as a fan of The Witcher series.’

Henry is stepping down after three years of playing the monster-hunting Geralt of Rivia character, with Liam Hemsworth stepping in to replace him.

The announcement comes before the third season has even aired, which will see Henry’s final scenes before handing over to Liam for the season after.

But fans had a lot to say on the switch up, with one even suggesting: ‘They should just cancel the whole show’.

‘Can’t believe Henry Cavill isn’t going to be the Witcher anymore,’ said another.

Some fans have even launched a petition demanding that Henry returns to the series.

Henry wrote in his announcement post: ‘My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4.

‘In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.

‘Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.’

While Liam explained that he was ‘over the moon’ to be taking on the role, sharing: ‘As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia.

‘Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.

‘Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world,’ he finished.
