A ‘mischievous’ sausage dog was caught on camera using her pooch pals to help her escape the stair gate – climbing on her big brother so she could make her getaway.Â
Mary Warwick, from Burbage, Leicestershire, said she’d routinely return home to discover her one-year-old dachshund Darcie peering back at her from the window sill – despite securing her dogs in the kitchen using a stair gate.
Perplexed as to how the savvy sausage dog was pulling off such a stunt, the 30-year-old decided to install a camera in the kitchen and was stunned at what the footage captured.

The one-year-old dachshund Darcie has been described as more ‘mischievous’ than the other dogs
Her clip reveals tiny ‘ringleader’ Darcie hopping on top of ‘gentle giant’ American pocket bulldog Benson – who actively lowers his back legs so that his pal can climb aboard.
Then, with an incredible display of balance, she places her front legs on top of the gate.
Benson along with her two other dachshunds Mollie and Vegas peer intently through the gate as if keeping a lookout before daring Darcie takes a massive leap and disappears out of sight.
The mum-of-one said that she’d been forced to adjust the height of the gate while she waits for a door to be delivered to prevent ‘ring leader’ Darcie from making any further getaways.

Mary said: ‘We recently had brand new settees and they’re a little bit higher than the previous ones and dachshunds can have problems with their backs, so we put a stair gate there to stop her from jumping up.
‘We were coming home and she was sat in the window sill or I’d open the front door and she’d come running out and I was wondering how and why.
‘We noticed that she kept getting out and we couldn’t work out how so we put a camera there and obviously she was using Benson to jump over.
‘She’s always been an absolute monkey since I’ve had her and it’s only her that escapes.

‘The others probably could but they just don’t.
‘She’s more mischievous than the other dogs, she’s like the ringleader.’
The personal assistant for the director of a civil engineering company said that docile Benson weighs around five stone and Darcie is more than seven times lighter than him.
She described her seven-year-old brown sausage dog Mollie as a ‘bossy boots’ while her four-year-old speckled sausage Vegas is a calm and relaxed ‘gentle soul’.

‘Obviously he’s absolutely massive and weighs around five stone and looks like he could eat you alive, but he’s the biggest softie ever.
‘He absolutely adores my little girl, sleeps with her and is really protective over her.’Â
‘Darcie’s the one that if there’s a toilet roll available, she’ll go and thread it. You can’t leave washing in the kitchen as she’ll pull all the clothes down.
‘She’s just a little bit naughty. We did really well with having well-behaved dogs and she’s just come along and completely ruined it, she’s really mischievous.
