Donald Trump has announced that he is suing NY Attorney General James, challenging the prosecutor’s own suit against the ex-president and his business, demanding $250million in damages.
Trump, 76, aired the lawsuit in an impassioned post to his Truth Social platform Wednesday night, in which he called the attorney general ‘corrupt’ and ‘bias,’ and New York ‘one of the most crime-ridden places on earth.’
Trump further charged that James, who aired plans last year to run for governor against Kathy Hatchel in the upcoming election but backed out after failing to raise the necessary funds, has done little to protect her city against rampant crime.
Instead, the suit states the prosecutor has engaged in a senseless ‘war of intimidation and harassment’ through her office’s investigation into Trump’s Big Apple-based real estate company, which James charges skirted taxes for 15 years.
Filed in Florida circuit court Wednesday evening, the lawsuit states James abused her position ‘to pursue a relentless, pernicious, public, and unapologetic crusade against’ the ex-president, who currently resides in Palm Beach County, Florida.
The goal of James’ supposed witch hunt, Trump charged, is ‘destroying him personally, financially, and politically.’
The civil suit seeks unspecified damages in regard to James’ alleged smear campaign, and went as far as to brand James a ‘political hack… who is using this lawsuit for political gain.’
Donald Trump has announced that he is suing NY’s Attorney General – seemingly in response to the prosecutor’s own suit against him and his business, demanding $250million in damages
Trump, 76, aired the lawsuit in an impassioned post to his Truth Social platform Wednesday night, in which he called the attorney general ‘corrupt’ and ‘bias,’ and New York ‘one of the most crime-ridden places on earth’
‘James has repeatedly abused her position as Attorney General for the State of New York to pursue a relentless, pernicious, public, and unapologetic crusade against President Trump, a resident of Palm Beach County, Florida, with the stated goal of destroying him personally, financially, and politically,’ the filing reads.
It goes on to slam James’ long-running investigation as ‘contrary to both the laws of New York and Florida,’ claiming it was launched without evidence and ‘before the pretext of a predicate existed.’
Since being elected in 2019, the suit states James ‘established within her office a policy of intimidating and harassing President Trump whenever possible,’ beginning during Trump’s presidency and persisting since he returned to his residence in Palm Beach County.
The end objective of the AG’s ‘ongoing intimidation and harassment’ campaign, it charges, is to cause the Trump and the Trump Organization irrevocable ‘harm’ – while building up ‘underserved publicity’ for herself as a politician.

It also suggests that last month, with midterms on the horizon and James herself facing reelection, the prosecutor ‘began amping up her attacks on President Trump to rev up her political base’ by filing the $250m civil suit.
James’ suit claimed that Trump and other staffers at his real estate empire committed fraud on a regular basis for a decade and a half, inflating his net worth by billions of dollars while misleading banks and others for years about the true value of various assets.
In response, Trump’s suit asserts that these parties he supposedly duped were some of the most ‘sophisticated commercial lenders and insurance companies… in the world’ – represented by ‘some of the largest, finest, and toughest law firms.’
It adds that statements submitted by James’ office to provide proof of the ex-president net worth ‘contained numerous disclaimers regarding the manner in which the estimates were prepared.’
‘To place this abusive claim in context,’ the suit asserts of the AG’s fraud allegations, ‘the many assets owned by President Trump carry very little debt and most are free and clear.’
Prosecutors in the trial based on James’ accusation allege that the Trump Organization ran a 15-year scheme to help its top executives from paying their proper taxes – claims the ex-president said were fabricated to harm his image and bolster the AG’s
‘James seeks unprecedented oversight of President 3 Trump’s business and financial affairs — including control over President Trump’s Florida revocable trust1 — as she grandstands in demanding $250 million in “restitution” for the people of New York,’ the suit charges.
‘In truth, James knows that no restitution is owed but seeks only attention for herself and retribution against President Trump.’
The civil suit seeks unspecified damages in regard to James’ alleged smear campaign, and went as far as to brand James a ‘political hack… who is using this lawsuit for political gain.’
The filing further declares James’ allegations would bring great harm to his company, the Trump brand, his employees and his reputation. ‘Likewise, it could virtually destroy the highly profitable’ properties his empire operates.
It comes as Trump finds himself embroiled in a litany of state, federal and Congressional inquiries – ranging from fraud allegations against his family real estate empire, to his handling of classified records, to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
Last week, a state administrative judge denied Trump’s push to move the James’ case against to another courtroom.
Upon announcing the filing Wednesday, Trump slammed the state prosecutor’s three-year tenure as largely unsuccessful, and her efforts a ploy to improve her political standing.

‘Today, I filed a lawsuit in Florida State Circuit Court against the corrupt Attorney General of New York State, Letitia “Peekaboo” James,’ Trump wrote, using his pet name for the prosecutor.
‘New York State is one of the most crime-ridden places on earth with murders, robberies, drug deals, and every other form of crime setting records on a weekly basis.’
All the while, the politician added, ‘James does nothing to protect New York against these violent crimes and criminals, she attacks great and upstanding businesses which have done nothing wrong, like the very successful, job and tax producing Trump Organization that I have painstakingly built over a long period of years.
‘Crooked and highly partisan James now thinks it is the business of the State of New York to go after my revocable trust and pry into my private estate plan, only to look for ways to recklessly injure me, my family, my businesses, and my tens of millions of supporters.
‘If I were not elected President of the United States, and now leading in the polls by substantial margins against both Democrats and Republicans, this would not be happening,’ Trump went on.
Trump tore into James, who is overseeing the $250 million lawsuit against him in New York
‘We have to stand up for our Country, fight against illegal persecution, and Make America Great Again!’
‘The only person who may be worse than weak on violent crime A.G. Letitia ‘Peekaboo’ James, is the Judge we have on her ridiculous & highly partisan case against me & my family,’ Trump wrote.
Prosecutors in the trial allege that the Trump Organization ran a 15-year scheme to help its top executives from paying their proper taxes – if convicted Trump’s company could face more than $1million in fines and tax penalties.
The tax fraud case is the only criminal trial to arise from the Manhattan district attorney’s three-year investigation into the embattled president, who, along with his Trump Organization, has been on trial since the start of the week.
The case is one of three active cases involving Trump or the company currently underway in New York courts.
James filed her lawsuit just over a month ago, alleging that the Trumps were involved in large-scale fraud, achieved by over-valuing assets like buildings and golf courses.
Trump, of course, has denied the claims – with his recent suit reiterating much of what his team has attested to in court.
The case is one of several legal battles facing the 76-year-old as he ponders another bid for the presidency after losing to current President Joe Biden in 2020. He has yet to be charged with any crime.
The Trump Organization comprises of more than 500 corporate entities. The district attorney’s office accused two of those entities of awarding benefits like rent-free apartments and leased luxury vehicles to top executives who failed to pay taxes on the perks.
