The FBI is responding to a reported ‘barricade situation’ inside the United States Army base at Fort Belvoir in Virginia.
The bureau’s National Capital Response Squad out of Washington DC has responded to the scene on Sunday, along with a military SWAT team and military police.
The nature of the ‘barricade situation’ remains unclear, and it is unknown how many people may be involved at this time.
In a statement to WUSA reporter Katie Kyros, the FBI said: ‘The situation is ongoing and we cannot comment further at this time.’
Fort Belvoir also tweeted that some of its gates will remain open, but drivers are asked to avoid the area.
The fort is located about 20 miles from the nation’s capitol.
It is home to more than 145 members, and provides services to over 216,050 military, civilians, retirees and families, according to its website.
