This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield wished Alison Hammond good luck at the 27th National Television Awards on Thursday.

Alison, 47, received a nomination for best TV presenter, while Holly and Phil were noticeably absent from the category nominations.

Although the daytime double-act have been given the cold shoulder by organisers, they showed their support for fellow This Morning presenter Alison on Instagram, with a beaming selfie and good luck message.

‘Our girl is up for an NTA’: This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield wished Alison Hammond good luck at the 27th National Television Awards on Thursday

Holly, 41, wrote on her Instagram Stories: ‘Our girl Alison Hammond is up for an NTA’

While Phil, 60, penned: ‘Good luck tonight Alison Hammond’

Alison will battle it out against Ant and Dec, both 46, who have been shortlisted for the 21st year consecutively, while the ITV show itself will compete with The Chase, The Repair Shop and Loose Women for the Daytime Award.

Speaking on This Morning on Thursday, Alison said: ‘I’ve got that imposter syndrome…I’m seeing it from the outside thinking ‘is this really real?’. I’ve been to that award’s ceremony so many times and I’m alright sitting in the background and letting other people taking the limelight.’

She went on: ‘Just to be nominated, I know everyone says it but it’s such a defining moment, I feel like I’m standing on the shoulders of giants in a way…and you guys voted and pushed me through! It feels so weird – there’s Graham Norton, Bradley Walsh and our Geordie Duo who are just incredible… and I’m sitting there with them!

‘It’s just so bizarre and I’m just so grateful for this moment, I don’t care what else happens… we are going to have a great night tonight.’

When Phillip asked, ‘Have you quietly thought about what you might say?’

Alison laughed, ‘Yes, I’ve got a speech… seven pages babes! Ha! I’m only joking! I’ll just go with the moment. Obviously I would love to win, it would mean so much to me and my family.

‘I’m just this girl from a council estate in Birmingham, I’ve worked really really hard, and I’m doing it for the everyday people that thought they weren’t good enough to be there, or couldn’t dream big enough so I want to do it for everyone else, so if I win, we all win man!’

Holly said, ‘You can do it!’

Alison admitted: ‘I feel like I’ve won already. It’s incredible… it’s a nice feeling to be seen and to be listened to.’

Holly added: ‘And it would be extra special this year because it is your 20th year here [on This Morning] which we all celebrated the other day.’

Alison went on to speak about her time on the show, saying: ‘It was just lovely, it made me realise how devious my family are keeping it [the surprise] from me, but it was so lovely to see everyone and I couldn’t believe all the old footage you got from way way back…’

On her bond with Friday co-host Dermot O’Leary, she added, ‘Dermot came to my house the other day and I just love him so much. He is my partner in crime. I just think he’s amazing.

‘He came down and I cooked him some chicken, rice and peas and he said it was the best dinner he’s ever had! I said to him ‘Aidan’s not very well so I’m just going to take him to the doctors, you chill out here’, and he was like, ‘No Al, I’m coming to the doctors with ya, I’m like his telly dad’! So we all went to the doctors all sitting in the waiting room – Dermot from The X Factor is in the doctors with me – it was so weird!’

ITV bosses are said to be considering ‘increasing security’ for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield at the upcoming NTAs.

MailOnline understands the pair are keen to attend the event on October 13 despite remaining at the centre of a row over allegations they jumped the queue at the Queen’s lying in state.

The pair have been the subject of online abuse in the wake of the claims and a petition to have the duo fired from their lucrative presenting roles has hit more than 75,000 signatures in just over a week.

In light of the ‘queue-jumping’ row, a source told MailOnline that ITV bosses are aware that the NTAs could pose ‘risks’ for the pair and will put ‘measures’ in place on the night, insisting that ‘keeping them safe is 100 per cent in the planning’.

Our source said: ‘Phil and Holly haven’t missed an NTA Awards in years. Although they regret any offence people may have felt by what happened at Westminster, they both remain firm in their view they didn’t do anything wrong.

‘They therefore don’t see why they should have to hide away and keep their heads down.

‘ITV are aware that the event will pose risks for the pair though. It’s the biggest TV Awards of the year and lots of people will be there, including many who might not agree with what Phil and Holly did.

‘The scale and nature of the abuse they’ve received – mainly via social media – has been shocking.

‘That’s why senior executives will make sure measures are put in place on the night to make sure that Phillip, Holly and the rest of the This Morning team are kept as safe as they can be.’

However, MailOnline has been told that the presenting duo are unlikely to be embarking on their usual marathon drinking sessions after the awards.

In previous years, Holly and Phillip have left viewers in stitches by arriving to host This Morning hungover after the star-studded NTAs.

Our source added: ‘Phillip and Holly realise they have to be careful right now so they won’t be going out after the Awards and putting themselves into situations which expose them to unnecessary risk.

‘The past week or so has been the worst period in Phil and Holly’s career. Holly, especially, has found it tough. But they are now determined to put this behind them and move on.’

The NTAs were rescheduled in light of the devastating news that Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, aged 96.T

The annual award ceremony has been moved to Thursday, October 13, from next Thursday, September 15.

This year’s NTA shortlist features more streamers than ever before, reflecting the changing broadcasting landscape.
