‘The vast majority of American people do like what I got done’: Biden AGAIN dismisses age concerns – a month from his 80th birthday – and insists he could BEAT Trump (but still won’t confirm if he’s running in 2024)
- Biden said he would weigh a potential 2024 bid after the midterm elections
- Insisted he could beat Donald Trump in a rematch in a CNN interview Tuesday
- Also again dismissed Americans’ continued concerns about his age
- Polling shows that even a majority of Democrats are concerned with Biden’s mental acuity and age
- ‘You may not like what I got done, but the vast majority of the American people do like what I got done,’ Biden said
Joe Biden still wouldn’t commit to running for reelection in 2024, but said that he could beat Donald Trump ‘again’ in a rematch and dismissed concerns about his age in a wide-range interview Tuesday evening.
The 79-year-old president said that people shouldn’t be worried about his age by claiming he’s achieved more than any president in recent history.
‘Look what I’ve gotten done,’ Biden, who turns 30 next month, told Jake Tapper in a CNN interview aired Tuesday evening.
‘Name me a president in recent history that’s gotten as much done as I have in the first two years. Not a joke,’ he continued. ‘You may not like what I got done, but the vast majority of the American people do like what I got done.’
He specifically pointed to his most recent legislative win with the Inflation Reduction Act passing.
Polling this week shows that a growing number of Americans are concerned with Biden’s mental health – including 52 percent of Democrats surveyed. The concern grew overall by 5 percent from before and after Biden’s latest, and now-infamous ‘Where’s Jackie’ gaffe, in which he called out trying to locate a congresswoman who died a month prior in a car crash with two staffers.
Biden said in Tuesday evening’s interview, without committing to another White House bid, that he could best Trump, 76, if the two senior citizens were to face-off again in 2024. He said that he will start weighing his decision to run after the 2022 midterm elections.
President Joe Biden said he would really weigh a potential 2024 bid after the midterm elections as he insisted he could beat Donald Trump in a rematch and dismissed continued concerns about his age
‘When you’re going to make an official announcement about whether or not you’re going to run for 2024 for reelection. Do you think you’ll make a decision before the end of the year?’ Tapper posed to Biden.
‘I’m not going to make this about my decision,’ the president said, claiming his focus is on the midterms, which take place November 8.
‘I’m going to make this about this off-year election. After that’s done in November, then I’m going to be in the process of deciding,’ he said.
A new Issue & Insights/TIPP Poll released Monday shows that even Democrats are growing more concerned with Biden’s mental health. The level was at 39% in August and grew to 52% in October following the flub about deceased Congresswoman Walorski
‘Is one of the calculations that you think you’re the only one who can beat Donald Trump?’
Biden shot back: ‘I believe I can beat Donald Trump again.’
Neither Biden nor Trump have announced their candidacy for 2024. There are tricky campaign finance laws that are likely stopping both from doing so.
In Biden’s 60 Minutes interview last month, he dismissed concerns about his age, mental acuity and physical fitness for office by saying ‘Watch me.’
Besides polls showing voters are concerned about the president’s frequent gaffes, another showed that nearly two-thirds of Democrats want a different nominee in the 2024 presidential election – mentioning his age as a major factor in their decision.
