Eddie McGuire branded a ‘nasty bastard’ in vicious war of words over Jordan De Goey on live radio

Eddie McGuire has been called a ‘nasty bastard’ by one of Australia’s biggest radio stars in a vicious 20-minute war of words that came soon after the ex-Collingwood president slammed troubled star Jordan De Goey for living in a ‘parallel universe’.

Radio 3AW DJ Neil Mitchell had a spiteful 30-minute clash with McGuire on Thursday morning as the pair butted heads over De Goey’s attention deficit disorder diagnosis, which emerged after the midfielder was punished by the club over his Bali party video.

On Wednesday night McGuire claimed Mitchell was ‘making a mockery’ of the midfielder’s condition by insinuating he only made it public to deflect attention from the scandal. He also took issue with the broadcaster labelling the player a ‘Bali boofhead’.

He then accused Mitchell of lying to him and driving the subjects of his stories to ‘very dark places’, drawing a furious response from the king of Melbourne radio.

‘This is the same Eddie who called [Indigenous AFL star] Adam Goodes “King Kong” and wanted to drown [footy journalist] Caroline Wilson at the Big Freeze,’ he said.

‘To paraphrase Julia Gillard, I will not be lectured on decency by this man.’

McGuire wasn’t taking that lying down.

‘I’ve got two people that I know that you went after,’ he shot back.

‘It didn’t end up well. I respect you as a broadcaster but sometimes you get it wrong.’

Speaking on Footy Classified on Wednesday night, McGuire stated the midfielder, 26, ‘lives on the edge’ and is consumed by a world dominated by Love Island, Married at First Sight and TikTok.

De Geoy has since taken personal leave from the Magpies following his now infamous mid-season Bali jaunt.

The club confirmed he has stepped away to ‘focus on his wellbeing’ and won’t play this weekend versus GWS at the MCG.

McGuire also stated De Goey was ‘on parole’ at Collingwood – but deserved one final chance.

‘Jordie has lived on the edge, if you like,’ McGuire said on Footy Classified.

‘He went and got the tattoos, he goes to the fights, he hangs out sometimes with bikie communities and things like that.

‘These kids watch Love Island, they watch MAFS (Married at First Sight), they don’t read the Financial Times and they’re on TikTok and doing those things.

‘He’s living in a parallel universe that he has to get from there over to here, which is what we expect of AFL footballers and people in the general community.

‘But if it hasn’t sunk in this time, then this will be his last time.’

‘He’s going down a similar path – he’s got no more chances,’ Fevola said on Fox FM.

‘He can earn millions of dollars playing the game he loves, if he pulls his head in.

‘You’ve been gifted a gift … put your head down, bum up … earn the respect back.

‘I just think he needs to get himself around some people that will help him.’

Initially De Goey was far from apologetic, stating intense media scrutiny such as what he was subjected to after the video emerged ‘will end in tragedy if no one speaks up’.

The midfielder was eventually contrite, admitting his behaviour was unacceptable, before pointing to his ADHD diagnosis last year as the catalyst for many of his poor life decisions.

De Goey was hit with a $25,000 fine, suspended until the end of the season – meaning if he stays out of trouble, the in-demand star won’t have to cough up a cent.
