BREAKING: Multiple people are injured in knife attack at Swedish mall

Multiple people have been injured in a knife attack at a Swedish mall, local police have said. 

One man is fighting for his life after several people were reportedly stabbed in central Västerås at around 8.30am.

The small city, 100 kilometres west of Stockholm, also has another man taken to hospital after the attack. 

Both men, aged between 45 and 54, were taken to the emergency room in Västerås with serious injuries after the incident, according to Region Västmanland. 

One man with life-threatening injuries is being operated on while the other man’s condition is stable. 

SVT also reported that police are not ruling out any more individuals being hurt in the attack at the mall Kvarteret Igor. 

Magnus Jansson Klarin, a police spokesman, said there has been one arrest and they did not suspect anyone else of involvement.

He added: ‘We receive several calls in a short time that there has been several [people] injured.’ 

According to information to Aftonbladet, police haved confirmed the people were injured with a sharp object. The incident is being investigated as an attempted murder.   

Mr Klarin added: ‘We can not rule out that more people have been injured, he continues.

‘[The area] has been blocked off and the police have a large presence at the [scene].

‘The person was arrested fairly immediately, a few minutes after we received the alarm.’

Back in March, two women who were stabbed at a high school in Southern Sweden died from their injuries. 

Both were both said to be employees at the school and in their 50s. 

An 18-year-old student was later arrested after their death.
