He was the guest of honour at Thursday evening’s amfAR Gala in Cannes, which went on during the annual film festival.

And Robert De Niro sat for a chat with Leonardo DiCaprio throughout the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc bash after the tragic news broke of former Goodfellas co-star Ray Liotta’s sudden death at the age of 67.

Robert paid tribute to Liotta and said: ‘I was very saddened to learn of Ray’s passing. He is way too way young to have left us’

Liotta, best known for his portrayal of gangster Henry Hill opposite De Niro and Joe Pesci, died in his sleep on Thursday while filming in the Dominican Republic.

78-year-old movie legend Robert donned a black tuxedo for the evening, as he appeared in deep conversation with the Wolf Of Wall Street actor.

Sitting next to De Niro – who had earlier paid tribute to the late actor – Leonardo donned a simple black shirt, covering his face with a black New York Yankees baseball cap.

He wrapped an arm around the honourary guest, before leaning back as De Niro flashed his famous smile.

Leonardo kept his appearance unknown for most of the evening, keeping his hat on after skipping the opportunity for red carpet snaps.
