Ayda Field reveals she’s on crutches and has to shuffle down the stairs after PRP injection

Robbie Williams‘ wife Ayda Field has revealed she’s on crutches after hurting her hip and can’t even walk up and down the stairs at her home – but claims it’s mind over matter as she tries to recover.

The former X Factor judge and model, 43, revealed she currently has to bum-shuffle down the stairs at her home in LA following a PRP injection on her hip. 

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections ‘uses a patient’s own blood cells to accelerate healing in a specific area,’ according to Hopkinsmedicine.org. It’s unknown if Ayda has a specific injury or just pain in her hip.

She shared on Instagram on Thursday footage of herself trying to negotiate the spiral staircase at the £4.9million mansion she and Robbie share with their children, saying: ‘It’s not going to stop me!’

Ayda, who attempted to smile and put on a brave face as she kept her left leg straight during the process, then gathered up a set of crutches which she used to walk to her door and go outside to her car.

Copying in her friend and change maker, Elsa Marie Collins, she wrote on her Instagram page: ‘A PRP on my hip and a bad hair day ain’t gonna stop me… this is for you @elsamariecollins #crutchlife #badhairday #cantstopwontstop #mindovermatter AWxx (Don’t worry, I will be off these crutches soon!’

Ayda also sped up the footage of her attempt to get on with things and played the Benny Hill show theme Yakety Sax as she tried to see the funny side of her predicament.

Fans and followers were concerned, with Hermes fashion executive Michael Coste telling Ayda: ‘Bravo! take care of you.’

Ayda replied with a smile: ‘Nothing a glass of champagne won’t fix.’

Ayda’s fitness expert friend Brandon Volz added: ‘I hope the PRP helps your hip! You’ve been dealing with that for so long :(‘

Another said: ‘Uh oh nooooooo Ayda please be gentle with your self and heal soon. Healing vibes.’

Others praised Ayda for her positive outlook and urged her to take time with her recovery while someone else asked: ‘Is a prp on the hip, the same as a steroid injection in the hip? I’ve had many of those and now I have 2 metal hips, I feel your pain, take care.’

PRP stands for a platelet-rich plasma injection, a type of regenerative therapy. 

They help you manage pain in tendons, ligaments, muscles and other injuries. 

The injection uses your body’s own healing properties in blood to treat pain and stimulate healing.

According to sources, sixty-seven percent (24/36) of the patients reported a more than 50 per cent improvement in pain at three months; 58 per cent (21/36) reported a more than 50 per cent improvement in pain at six months.

The treatment is believed to cost £1,000 privately. 

It comes after Ayda said working mothers are not treated fairly – and claimed husband Robbie Williams is never asked if he feels ‘guilty’ about leaving their children for work.

Speaking on her Postcards From the Edge podcast, she said: ‘It’s interesting, it’s the same voice that goes in my head – you used the word ‘selfish’, that mummy has to be ‘selfish’ to do her work.

‘It’s interesting, like I see Rob going off to do his work, and I don’t think he ever thinks of it as being selfish.

‘And it’s interesting as women – and I don’t know if that’s because of what we’ve inherited culturally from our mothers and their mothers, and society, and what’s expected of us – how we do feel guilty when we pursue something that’s ours. 

‘Or it feels like it’s at the behest of our children, or that it’s wrong to want those things because it’s selfish – that judgment we put in place.

‘It’s that thing where you judge yourself and you do find it selfish sometimes and that voice that you have to fight. Whereas I look at Rob, and I imagine many men, and they don’t feel like it’s selfish.

‘Why do we do that? Why does it become selfish all of a sudden?’

Field married the singer, 48, in 2010. Together they raise children Theodora, ten, Charlton, eight, Colette, four, and Beau, three.

The model and actress said she doesn’t think Williams has ever been asked about feeling ‘guilty’ leaving his children for work.

She added: ‘I’ve been there at his interviews and I’ve never heard anyone say, ”Do you feel guilty being away from the kids?” Or, ”Who’s looking after the kids while you’re on the road?”
