A leading Missouri lawmaker says he contacted police after Senate candidate Eric Greitens released a gun-wielding ad urging his supporters to hunt moderate Republicans.

The former governor came under fire Monday after he posting 38-second campaign video to Twitter that called on his followers to ‘hunt’ those who don’t support former President Donald Trump.

And the unhinged ad was met with pushback from Missouri Senate Majority Leader Caleb Rowden – himself a Republican – who says he contacted authorities about Greitens’ remarks.

‘Anyone with multiple accusations of abuse toward women and children should probably steer clear of this rhetoric,’ Rowden tweeted, referencing the allegations of spousal and child abuse made by Greitens’ ex-wife.

The state GOP leader added that he hopes Greitens ‘finds the help he needs,’ implying he was in need of psychiatric care.

Rowden’s snide remark came in response to a tweet from a now-deleted unaffiliated account supporting Greitens’ campaign.

The tweet tagged Rowden, current Missouri Governor Mike Parson and other Republicans the poster considered to be RINOS, an acronym for Republicans in Name Only.

‘We’ve got our permit and we’re coming for you!’ Twitter user @Greitens_Eric penned. ‘Look out.’

Dylan Johnson, Greitens’ campaign manager, responded to Rowden’s tweet, mocking the GOP leader for voicing his concerns.

‘Give me a break. This account obviously has nothing to do with @EricGreitens or the @TeamGreitens campaign,’ Johnson wrote.

He also included video of a clip from TV show Reno 911 in which cops consoled a crying man. ‘A live look at the RINOs today,’ he added.

While the tweet was not directly tied to the Greitens campaign, political analysts allege it illustrates just how powerful the unhinged advertisement could be.

Greitens, a leading contender for the Republican Senate nomination in Missouri, published the controversial campaign video Monday on his social media platforms.

‘We are sick and tired of the Republicans in Name Only surrendering to Joe Biden & the radical Left. Order your RINO Hunting Permit today!’ he captioned the new clip.

The video begins with the Senate hopeful walking down a street, gun in hand, telling viewers: ‘I’m Eric Greitens, Navy Seal and today we’re going RINO hunting.

‘A RINO feeds on corruption and is marked by the stripes of cowardice.’

In the video Greitens and an armed military squad are seen breaking into a home and firing round after round of shots.

‘Join the MAGA crew and get a RINO hunting permit,’ Greitens says. ‘There’s no bagging limit, no tagging limit and it doesn’t expire ’til we save our country.’

Trump has not endorsed Greitens or waded into the Missouri race at all so far.

The Greitens campaign did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment, but the ad generated much pushback online.

Facebook removed it from the platform and Twitter put a warning on it that reads: ‘This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules about abusive behavior. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible.’

The Missouri Republican posted the new 38-second clip to Twitter. 'I'm Eric Greitens, Navy Seal and today we're going RINO hunting,' he said.

The 48-year-old Navy Seal and former Democrat, who switched to the GOP in 2015, is no stranger to gun-touting ads. In 2016 during his run for governor, Greitens released an ad of himself firing off rounds of an automatic Gatling gun.

He won the gubernatorial race but resigned the governorship after being indicted in 2018 over claims he sexually and physically assaulted his hairdresser in 2015.

The woman claims he used nude photographs taken of her to keep her quiet and that he tied her up in a basement and coerced her to have sex with him.

Greitens admitted to having an extramarital affair with his hairdresser and said their encounters were consensual.

He also faced felony charges for using a veterans charity list to raise campaign cash.

Additionally, his ex-wife Sheena Greitens has accused him of spousal and child abuse.

She recently requested records from the governor’s office proving that Greitens has had his access to firearms limited numerous times.

She said that her ex-husband repeatedly threatened to commit suicide unless she showed ‘specific public political support’ in 2018 as he weathered multiple scandals.

As a result, she and others limited his access to firearms at least three times that year.

‘If you hit a woman or a child, you belong in handcuffs, not the United States Senate. It’s time for Eric Greitens to leave this race,’ he wrote on Twitter in March.

Greitens has claimed his ex-wife’s attacks are politically motivated and that she has conspired with Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Karl Rove to keep him out of power. He is also seeking full custody of his children.
