Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina were every inch the picture perfect couple as they took to the red carpet for the premiere of his film Three Thousand Years of Longing at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday.

The actor, 49, cut a dapper figure as he joined his glamorous spouse Sabrina, 32, who wowed in an eye-catching Tony Ward Couture lilac gown, and in a sweet moment helped her with her long train to get the perfect snap.

Star of the show Idris dressed to impress in a navy tuxedo with black detail, which he teamed with shiny dress shoes and a lavish watch.

Sabrina exuded elegance in the floaty gown, which boasted gold detailing, with her sleek raven tresses styled poker straight. 

According to IMDb, the film is about a ‘lonely and bitter British woman’ who encounters a genie during a trip to Istanbul.

The film is written and directed by Mad Max director George Miller and has a budget of around US$60,000,000.

The unidentified protester tore off her clothes during the film’s red carpet procession to reveal the message ‘Stop raping us’ written across her torso next to the blue and yellow colours of the Ukraine flag.

In total, some 35,000 film professionals are expected to attend the festival between May 17 and 28, hoping for a return to form for cinema’s most glamorous event after two years when it was hampered by Covid-19 restrictions.

One major exception is the absence of Russians, due to the impact of sanctions over the war in Ukraine and a ruling from the organisers that state-linked delegates are not welcome. China is also expected to have a limited presence due to its continuing Covid restrictions.

But otherwise the festival is keen to put the pandemic in the past, with no mandatory masks or health passes this year – and no restrictions to partying.

Film fans can get stuck into the usual feast of new releases and competition entries, braving the festival’s famously opinionated crowds, who are never shy about cheering and booing during screenings.

The two-week annual event will see hotly-anticipated films Top Gun: Maverick and King of Rock ‘N Roll’ biopic Elvis shown.

Guests were served Porte Noire Petite Porte NV and Porte Noire Champagne 2010 to enjoy throughout the evening. 

Porte Noire was founded by actor, producer and DJ, Idris, and founder of Connaught Wine Cellars, David Farber who together have curated a delicious and unique collection of wines.

Sabrina slipped into a plunging maxi dress which she teamed with small heels as they kept the party going after a glamorous evening.

The couple continued to put on a loved-up display as they cosied up during the boozy night.
